Characterization of the effects of high-intensity negative current pulses on metal transfer and melting rate in the AC-GMAW process

The use of variants the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process has become an affordable option in industry. Alternating current–gas (AC-GMAW) arises as one them, providing additional degrees freedom for controllability and versatility. This study focused on analysis a complex waveform AC-GMAW stainless steel, employed modern synergic programs, which not been widely disseminated technical literature assessed scientifically. main objective was to characterize effects high-intensity pulses negative polarity over discuss potential this strategy, since it used conventional AC programs. In order bring light information phenomena involved, such climbing wire electrode, advanced techniques high-speed videography were used, synchronized with acquisition electrical signals, well infrared thermography, verify evolution cooling piece after welding. results grounded discussions different waveforms. process’ data, along images melting workpiece thermal behavior, showed that there significant visible increase during pulse. addition, evidenced how electrode increment contributed even at lower power also workpiece.
